Dr Paul Mason is a laser physicist with more than 30 years of experience developing advanced high-energy laser systems for scientific, industrial, and energy applications. As Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of DiPOLE Systems, he leads the company’s technology strategy and product development, translating world-leading laser research into scalable, field-deployable commercial platforms. He has been instrumental in the development of DiPOLE technology for over 15 years, including the world’s first kilowatt-average-power high-energy diode pumped solid-state laser system based on cryogenic gas-cooled Yb:YAG amplifier technology.

Prior to co-founding DiPOLE Systems, Paul was a Senior Laser Scientist at the Central Laser Facility at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, where he specialised in high-energy DPSSL systems for high-intensity physics and inertial fusion energy applications. Earlier in his career he spent nearly two decades at QinetiQ and predecessor organisations developing advanced optical and laser technologies. Paul holds a PhD in Non-linear Optics from the University of Birmingham, is a Chartered Physicist, has authored more than 100 scientific publications, and is named on multiple international patent applications. He is internationally recognised for combining deep scientific expertise with practical engineering leadership and commercial technology development.
